January 2022- Going with Grace

Like folks flooding out of a subway car, through the turnstile and up the chute of a stairway to spread out into the light and space of the cityscape world above, we made our way through the narrowing pass of 2021 into the new year. :) Happy New Year :)
Let me go with grace into this year...a guiding principle that has recurred in my mind as 2021 crescendoed into the turning over of this new leaf. Rich and I stayed up for unplanned hours on New Year's Eve, tipsy off of two glasses of hard cider...an infrequent occasion for us due to years of trying to target what was contributing to my autoimmune madness. We failed to focus on any one thing and rather waded into nostalgia's pool, diving the deep ends into all the chapters of our lives that shaped us...heartaches and searching moments, 'golden age's' and formative times. Days turned to nights when there were seemingly no obligations and we could ride spontaneity's waves until we tired. But here we lay beside each other in the last minutes of the year, products of our respective evolutions, a grounded unit...stronger for each other. Together we dissected our hurdles of the past few years and it brought me back to that idea of grace. We certainly didn't forecast the taller hurdles that we jumped this year, and they are surely not to be the last. In the name of resiliency, my intention is to pass through those darker times with more grace. Like the undeniable grace of the barn swallows that coast over the summer field here on the farm. With the fluidity of water, they fly low over the grasses, mindful of the wind, dipping to and fro as they catch insects and soar on to eventually and softly land in neighboring tree branches to rest and digest and watch.
If we ever feel lost, often a compass can be found in mother nature's repertoire. And not just there. There are a number of folks who I admire so much in my life who live with that same grace...with eyes and hearts open to the world that we share and with a good dose of stillness in them to allow room for mindfulness.
We welcome the dawn of the new year...and have high hopes for a good year of growing, baking, experimenting, shenaniganing, and perhaps even a year that we see the world work toward peace.
🌱Best to you and yours🌱
