November 2020

“Oh, it's a long, long while
From May to December
But the days grow short,
When you reach September.
When the autumn weather
Turn leaves to flame
One hasn't got time
For the waiting game.
Oh the days dwindle down
To a precious few . . .
September, November . . .”
-Willie Nelson…Ella Fitzgerald…and originally Maxwell Anderson
A PRECIOUS FEW
This autumn is thick with crimson leaves and layers of clothes and pre-freeze to-do’s on the farm and family matters and the world’s frenzied energy mounting around us. And despite the fact that there are so many things contending to occupy our minds, the days are growing shorter and my body is doing what it has done since I started farming…it wants to sleep a little longer, just like the sun. I think there is something about being outside most of the time that allows us to sync up with the season. And so I think I will start to allow my mind to relax when I’m tired…remind myself to listen to my body and the natural world around me rather than the contrived work work work world that seems to be glorified in modern times.
And is it a coincidence that we had one of the most stellar years for fall foliage? Maybe it’s the earth’s way of reminding us to look around or that the world is spinning on. I sure hope it has been offering you all as much solace as it has me. Those luscious colors have had Rich wanting to add nutmeg to everything, and me and May desiring to watch Charlie Brown and bake together. And I suppose it must have been setting the mood for the sheep too…Bobby has been seen making the rounds with the ewes. These are November things around Foxhole Farm.

SPECIAL THANKSGIVING DELIVERY
We are continuing to offer weekly online ordering with pick up in the Oakwood Farmers Market Parking Lot on Saturdays!
However, the week of Thanksgiving, instead of Saturday pick up we are going to deliver to your doorstep the day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, November 25th) if you live on our route (Centerville, Washington Township, Kettering, Oakwood, Brookville). We will also be delivering to This Old Couch Vintage Store in Beavercreek for pick up that Wednesday from 12-2 if you do not live in one of the listed neighborhoods. If picking up at This Old Couch, there are other farms offering pick up that day, including Hooting Hills Farm (hootinghills.com) with their pastured turkeys and Bank Barn (bankbarnmeats.com) with their meat selection as well.
I’m baking two of my favorite pies and Rich has various breads on the menu in addition to our first ever crop of salad mix from the new hoop house, shoots, microgreens, etc.
