That Sweet Month of May

Announcing Online Ordering

We bring this newsletter to you a few days early to tell you that we have joined the online ordering game!

If you are a 2020 Foxhole csa member, you will get an email sent to you each Tuesday this month, offering you a day’s head start on ordering produce, plants for your garden, sourdough or other goodies from our farmhouse bakeshop.  Everyone else will be able to order from our website  Wednesday-Thursday.  All orders can be picked up from 10am-noon on Saturdays in the parking lot where Oakwood Farmers Market takes place (22 Orchard Street).  You just need to give us your name when you show up and we’ll hand over your pre-packed goods!

We completely revamped our website and have our new and  improved online store up and running. In order to safely and efficiently serve Dayton until markets begin, we wanted to offer you direct access to our full line up. Each week more will become available to you online as the field comes alive.

Farmers Market Updates
The start date for This Old Farmers Market (Sundays in Beavercreek) has been postponed until Sunday, June 7th.  We plan to be there full time this year.  If the market managers change anything, we will let you know.

Oakwood Farmers Market is still bound to open on Saturday, June 6th.  Again, we will communicate any changes!

We have plans to operate our market booth differently this year, in a way that allows us to get the goods to you in the lovely open-air setting that we all enjoy, in a safe way.  It’s going to be a new version of market…but still packed with the good stuff: fresh air, vibrant produce…community.

We are All Over the Place…In a Good Way
Ghostlight Corner Shop has expanded to include both of their locations. You can find some of our goods on their online shop!

Dorothy Lane Market is carrying our shoots and micros as usual.  As the season wears on, we will be stocking their shelves with more.

Top Knot Kitchen, which delivers phenomenal salads, is carrying our sourdough bread, which you can tack on to your order

And of course…we are now offering our online ordering with Saturday pick up.

Some Thoughts on Being Essential

There is now a delineation between what is essential to our state, our country, our world.  Our business made the list.  And it beckoned that feeling of ‘making the team’.  We made it on the offensive team…making plays/growing food, scoring goals/getting food to people.  The medical professionals and distribution folks out there are on the same team making plays and scoring goals.  But so many people in our lives are on the defensive team…protecting the goal/staying home and safe and backing up the offense/supporting local businesses and sending thoughts, prayers, and more to those suffering from COVID-19.  There is also the bench…those laid off, even temporarily, who must wait until it is their turn to tap in.  Like the best teams, all three components are essential.  And to be honest, it seems to me that the folks who are stuck at home without a job are just as much of heroes as those labeled ‘essential’  for keeping their heads and hearts afloat.  Let’s talk about the last piece that completes the ‘team’ puzzle.  Every team could use a good coach…wait, I’ll just stay away from politics!

We are happy to be working, to be outdoors everyday…keeping our bodies and minds too busy to wonder too much about what is coming next.  It really is one day at a time, and the days are getting longer and warmer and greener and those are all good things!   This way of life affords us a sense of security, knowing that the product of our work: food…is essential.  Although we may be scrambling to rearrange the outlets for our goods, as long as we are agile, we are providing something that is quite essential: nourishment.  And I would say that the Dayton community…a uniquely resilient and supportive gem of a city, is essential to us and to our business.  This is to say, we are all in this together, which is something that helps me to feel a sense of strength and brings me peace.
